How Currently Being A Work At Home Tycoon

When I first started out as a virtual assistant, more years ago than I care to remember, there weren't many other VA's around and therefore not much competition. Nowadays, a sizeable proportion of the clients I take on have worked with at least one other VA in the past. When I ask what differences they notice between how we work and what they have experienced in the past, it is often commented on that what they like more than anything is that we work as a partnership with our clients, being proactive in their businesses and looking for opportunities for them and suggesting ideas, as opposed to those VAs that just sit and wait for work to be delegated to them.

Be patient and try to see it from the customer/client's point of view. We've all been in a situation where we've experienced some sort of poor customer service, whether it was dealing with the reps at your cell phone company or trying to return something to a department store. So, use these past experiences to see it from your client's point of view. Try to be patient and attempt to understand what they need or want and how you can help them. Listen to what it is they are actually saying and put yourself in their shoes.

One of our clients' biggest concerns has always been identity theft and credit card number theft. In all the years we've been staffing virtually, we've never seen this happen. It may be that the work personality profile is weeding out the people who might be tempted and our HR department is further ferreting out those who are less-than-desirable, but the other half of it is the contractor mentality of a virtual assistant as opposed to the employee mentality of an...employee!

Yes, your friends and family will see your book through rose colored glasses, but they should still read and offer editing help where they can. Make it clear to them that they should not go easy on you, although they likely still will. With most of the little things taken care of, your professional editor will be able to get into the meat of the book.

A serviced office, a extra resources or a home office. You will not want to embark on unnecessary expense by committing to a commercial space when it would be perfectly feasible for you to run your business from home. However, a home office may prove detrimental to the progress of your business in its infancy and therefore be counter-productive.
