Skimlinks Releases Full API For Web Publishers

14916v9-max-250x250 (1)Skimlinks, a content monetization platform for web publishers, has released a comprehensive API suite. Part of this allows publishers to learn more about their users' shopping habits. The startup made the news recently when it was briefly used by hot startup Pinterest to monetize its outgoing links - although that arrangement foundered after it attracted controversy.

An Interview With Rob Schmitz, The Reporter Who Fact-Checked Mike Daisey [TCTV]

SchmitzRob Schmitz is a reporter and Marketplace Correspondent based in Shanghai, China. He has spent time in many factories - as well as a bit of time outside of the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen, the same factory fabulist Mike Daisey interviewed workers he purported were 12 and 13 years old. Schmitz's findings definitely didn't jibe with Daisey's and I decided to sit down for a few minutes to go over his experiences reporting on Chinese manufacturing practices and problems.

Windows Phone Inches Past Near-Dead Symbian In U.K. Market Share

windows-phone-7-marketplaceMicrosoft's Windows Phone platform seems to be picking up some steam across the pond, or so a new report from Kantar Worldpanel claims. According to their study, Symbian now only accounts for 2.4% of the UK smartphone market while the Windows Phone platform has grown from 0.5% last year to around 2.5%, barely inching ahead of Nokia’s former smartphone OS of choice. I know, a victory is a victory, but Windows Phone's triumph has much more to do with how far Symbian has fallen in just a year. As of February 2011, Symbian could be found on 12.4% of smartphones in the UK, with its popularity tanking over the intervening months.

If God is a DJ, these are his decks (video)

Not getting the kind of attention you feel a DJ deserves? Then maybe it's because your decks are Plain Janes of spinning black nothingness when they could be so much more. You need projectors up there on the ceiling, creating light shows mapped to the rotation and beat of your records and simultaneously overlaying your software -- so you won't have to keep staring subserviently at a laptop. The next step? Using Wii controllers and motion capture for even stranger effects, plus whatever else your imagination conjures after seeing the video below. Soon this technology will be everywhere, from hospital radio DJs right down to that little pretender who does discos on the pier, so get in there quick to beat the curve.
